Hoich's Helpful Hints
Each month we will provide information that will help you
understand your sprinkler system and keep it running trouble-free.
Old man winter has finally arrived and
hopefully everyone has shut down their sprinkler system
for the season. It may seem that the watering season has
just ended, but it is never too early to start looking forward
to the upcoming watering season. Part of what we do at USA/Hoich
Irrigation is to educate our customers on how to manage
their sprinkler systems. Each passing year brings new challenges
to your watering system: plants, shrubs and trees have grown
larger; the turf grass is another year mature; landscape
areas may have been changed, added to or reduced; walkways,
patios or home additions are now completed. Taking all of
these factors into account, as well as last year's precipitation,
will affect how each one of us should be watering in the
upcoming season. When new landscapes are installed, decisions
need to be made on the best and most efficient way to get
them watered. As trees and plants grow more mature, their
direct watering needs tend to decrease. The installation
of walkways, patios or home additions will cause heads to
be relocated or spray patterns to be adjusted to prevent
overspray. Water conservation will be the biggest challenge
facing our industry and homeowners alike in the upcoming
decade. Helping customers find ways to conserve water and
still keep lawns green and plush, and landscapes big and
beautiful is our goal. In the upcoming months I will discuss
what is available to the consumer to help your sprinkler
system become more efficient. Also, I will outline some
helpful tips that can be performed throughout the summer
to ensure proper operation and maximum efficiency of your
existing sprinkler system.
